After relegation and a torrid season at the hands of numerous owners, the FA and a few shocking displays on the pitch Portsmouth FC are going to Wembley. 5 trips to the home of English football 3 years is a pretty impressive CV in the eyes of any football fan, and if we can win against Chelsea on the 15th of May we’ll be back again in the charity shield at the start of next season.
Remaining true to our Portsmouth roots, Vespasian Security are going to be backing our lads at Wembley and at the same time working closely with the Hampshire Constabulary and City Council to ensure the live viewing on Southsea Common is safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. The total number attending the event is estimated at 30,000 people (that’s about 10,000 more than Fratton Park holds and more than the allocated tickets given to Portsmouth FC for the cup final).
Oliver Gardiner (Vespasian Security MD) alongside the Hampshire Constabulary and the Portsmouth city council events team have worked together to develop an array of crowd management strategies and techniques to ensure crowd safety.
Imagine dealing with 3000 people in an environment where the atmosphere is dictated by the emotions the crowd goes through in the space of 90 minutes. That in itself is a challenging scenario, now multiple that number by 30 and the whole thing becomes even more interesting.
Win or lose the 15th is going to be an amazing atmosphere, challenging and enjoyable for the 110 staff Vespasian will have working the event.
Check back on Monday and see how the day went, we should have some video and photos to share as well.
